Sports injury rehabilitation
Activities can exert a tremendous amount of stress on the spinal column and joints. Dr. Charles S. Corallo works with amateur and professional athletes for optimal health to prevent injury. Unfortunately injuries occur, but with chiropractic for sports injuries, clients regain strength and avoid chronic issues.
A sports injury such as a sprained ankle or sore back can result from poor technique or lead to poor technique when an individual athlete overcompensates for an injury by favoring one side of his or her body or one position. Sports injuries also lead to secondary pains and problems. Dr. Corallo treats not just the specific location of pain but the areas radiating out from it as well.
If left untreated, sports injuries can lead to further pain and injury
Although many people think that chiropractic is solely limited to the spine, our team works with and helps prevent injuries of the neck, back, shoulders, knees and ankles. When the spine is perfectly aligned, this can alleviate tension in the body, decrease inflammation and allow the nervous system to function optimally.
We can help athletes by relieving their pain and helping them heal faster after an injury. Many athletes try to mask pain with medication, but this can lead to further risk and damage to the body. At Dr. Charles S. Corallo Chiropractic Physician, we will perform a full evaluation. A customized treatment plan will be created to get athletes feeling their best and back to doing what they love.
Sports injury rehabilitation treatments used at our facility
Chiropractic care works with gentle manual manipulation to correct subluxations in the spine. When the vertebrae are out of alignment, it can cause terrible symptoms such as pain and other long-term ailments.
A full rehabilitation and strengthening program is essential to ensure full recovery and to prevent further injury. These exercises sometimes include muscle stretching, joint mobility exercises or muscle strengthening exercises.
Low-level laser light is used to target damaged tissue and reduce inflammation. This allows for acceleration of the body’s healing process and recovery from injury.
Lumbar decompression therapy is non-surgical, non-invasive, and typically does not involve pain medications. The treatment is not only safe and painless but also comfortable and relaxing. Spinal traction allows us to gently separate the vertebrae from each other. This creates a vacuum inside the discs promoting diffusion of water, oxygen and other nutrient-rich fluids from the outside of the discs to the inside. Over time, the results of this therapy are quite dramatic in healing disc injuries in the neck and lower back.
Trigger point myofascial release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.
